This 5-day class in woven tapestry is open to students at all skill levels, including beginners. The class is for anyone interested in tapestry and will be taught through informal one to one sessions, demonstration, and discussion.
We will be learning about both technique and design. Depending on skill and experience, students will work on their own projects or a 'sampler' of basic techniques.
About the tutor: Joan Baxter, internationally known Scottish tapestry artist and inspirational teacher will lead the class. She has been teaching this Summerschool
in Læsø for nearly 20 years and now for the first time we have the chance to work with her at Hørvævsmuseet, The Flax Weaving Museum in Denmark.
The class will be in English, but we will of course help each other with language when necessary.
What to bring:
Inspiration:
can be anything, a drawing, a photo, a pebble, or anything that you like - colour combinations, patterns.
Materials:
We have a small selection of yarns and warp for use in the class and we encourage students to bring their own yarn too if they want.
Equipment:
Please bring your own tapestry frame if you have one. This can be just a simple wood frame or a more purpose-built tapestry loom. If you do not have a frame,
we will have a few available to use in class.
You will also want to bring a camera and/drawing materials to help with design.
The tutor will bring some tapestry samples and some PowerPoint lectures.
