Guinaga er kendt for at hente inspiration til sin musik fra en række forskellige genrer: choro, samba, baião, frevo, blues, jazz og vestlig klassisk musik. Med næsten tyve albums bag sig blev Guinga nomineret til Latin Grammy for bedste instrumentale album i 2012.
Guingas sange er blevet indspillet af mange bemærkelsesværdige kunstnere gennem hans karriere, såsom Elis Regina, Chico Buarqu, Miúcha, Esperanza Spalding og Michel Legrand blandt andre. Han har optrådt med mange forskellige ensembler rundt om i verden, herunder Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
Han begyndte at komponere i en alder af seksten og studerede klassisk guitar under Jodacil Damasceno. Hans professionelle karriere i 70'erne akkompagnerede Beth Carvalho og indspillede med samba-legender som Cartola og Clara Nunes.
Med sine 73 år turnerer Guinga nu internationalt og er en favorit blandt musikere over hele verden.

Guinga is known for drawing inspiration for his music from a range of different genres: choro, samba, baião, frevo, blues, jazz and western classical music. With nearly twenty albums behind him, Guinga was nominated for the Latin Grammy for best instrumental album in 2012.
Guinga's songs have been recorded by many notable artists throughout his career such as Elis Regina, Chico Buarqu, Miúcha, Esperanza Spalding and Michel Legrand amongst others. He has appeared with many different ensembles around the world, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
He began composing at the age of sixteen and studied classical guitar under Jodacil Damasceno. His professional career in the 70s accompanying Beth Carvalho and recorded with samba legends such as Cartola and Clara Nunes.
At 73, Guinga now tours internationally and is a favourite of musicians around the world.
