This is your chance to deepen your dance experience by gaining knowledge in three different. street dance styles over four Saturdays. The first three Saturdays will focus on the skills of.
Hip Hop, House, and Waacking, while the final session will explore how to blend these styles
while still honoring each as a unique form. In each style, we'll dive into its history, foundational groove, basic steps, and various concepts among some fun combos.
A little bit about each style:
Hip Hop: A high-energy, rhythm-driven dance style rooted in urban culture, characterized by
its expressive groove, bounce, and sharp movements. Hip hop dance emerged alongside hip
hop music in the 1970s in the U.S.
House: Originating from Chicago and New York clubs in the 1980s, House dance focuses on
fluid, footwork-based movements, with an emphasis on rhythm, feeling the beat, and a
groove called "jacking."
Waacking: A style born in the LGBTQ+ clubs of Los Angeles in the 1970s, Waacking is
known for its expressive arm movements, poses, and fast spins, often performed to disco
music and celebrating individuality.
