WHAT DO I MEAN WHEN I TALK ABOUT JOY? JOY/mixed feelings want to reflect on joy. Not joy as a static feeling like happiness or sadness, but joy as a dynamic and complex emotion that is interplay with struggle. Joy might involve happiness, but it includes a range of feelings at once: it might feel overwhelming, painful, dramatic, and world-shaking, or subtle and uncanny. Joy rarely feels comfortable or easy, because it transforms and reorients people and relationships. JOY/mixed feelings is a celebration of joy, childishness, playfulness and pleasure through songs, dance and extravagant costumes
