Napoleon Solo: 40-års jubilæum

Den 5. oktober 2024 er det 40 år siden, det københavnske ska-band Napoleon Solo spillede deres allerførste koncert.

Det skal naturligvis fejres, hvor bandet slog sine folder i 80'erne og 90'erne - nemlig i Musikcafeen.Musikcafeen har en helt særlig betydning for Napoleon Solo, der igennem 80'erne og 90'erne spillede mere end 25 udsolgte koncerter på stedet. Napoleon Solo blev tilmed Månedens band i Musikcafeen i januar 1986 og modtog Årets John i 1989. Anekdoterne fra perioden står i kø. Derfor er det med stor glæde, at Napoleon Solo vender tilbage til Musikcafeen på selve jubilæumsdagen for at levere et brag affest for gamle og nye fans. Som traditionen byder, er indlagte overraskelser ikke utænkelige.Napoleon Solo, der med sin start i 1984, er et af de ældste ska-bands iDanmark. Lige siden har bandet, der er kendt for sin livlige og stilfuldeperformance, leveret solid ska med en snert af reggae og soul til bådedet danske og det internationale publikum.Bandet spillede sin første koncert uden for Danmark i 1986. I 1988optrådte bandet på The London International Ska Festival og udgavEP'en How To Steal The World med fx ørehængeren I Don't BelieveYou. På det tidspunkt kårede det engelske magasin New MusicalExpress Napoleon Solo til et af de ti bedste ska-bands i verden.I 1989 udkom albummet Shot! med hits som Trains & Buses, AlwaysFriday og Baby Elephant Walk. Det blev startskuddet til flere turnéer iDanmark, Tyskland og England, blandt andet med engelske BadManners.Som det eneste skandinaviske band optrådte Napoleon Solo i 2011igen på The London International Ska Festival. Samme år blev Shot!genudgivet, og Napoleon Solo optrådte sammen med The Specials iKøbenhavn.Napoleon Solo udgav i 2018 albummet Open Channel D medklassikere som Nobody Told Me og nyere materiale som Hot as Ice påtyske Pork Pie Records og amerikanske Jump Up Records.I 2019 markerede gruppen sit 35 års jubilæum på This Is Ska Festival iTyskland, og var i 2021 blandt hovednavnene på den tyske festival Skais Back in Town. Sidste år deltog Napoleon Solo ved en mindekoncertfor The Specials' forsanger Terry Hall på Loppen.Napoleon Solo er stadig: Søren Ole Christensen (vokal), Jasper HolstJørgensen (vokal/guitar), Sonny Henry Rasmussen (guitar), PoulSiersbæk (bas), Jens Wennecke (trommer), Jacob Palitzsch (orgel),René Dreyer (guitar), Jack Rothe (alt- og tenorsax) og Hans Nybo(tenor- og barytonsax).ENG:On October 5, 2024, it will be 40 years since the Copenhagen ska band Napoleon Solo played their very first concert. Therefore, it is with greatpleasure that Napoleon Solo returns to Musikcafeen on the very day ofthe anniversary to deliver a spectacular party for old and new fansalike. As tradition dictates, surprises may occur.Napoleon Solo, which began in 1984, is one of Denmark's oldest skabands. Ever since, the band, known for its lively and stylishperformances, has delivered solid ska with a touch of reggae and soulto both Danish and international audiences.The band played its first concert outside Denmark in 1986. In 1988, theband performed at The London International Ska Festival and releasedthe EP "How To Steal The World" featuring the catchy tune "I Don'tBelieve You." At that time, the English magazine New Musical Expressnamed Napoleon Solo one of the ten best ska bands in the world.In 1989, the album "Shot!" was released, with hits like "Trains &Buses," "Always Friday," and "Baby Elephant Walk." This marked thebeginning of several tours in Denmark, Germany, and England,including with the English band Bad Manners.As the only Scandinavian band, Napoleon Solo performed again at TheLondon International Ska Festival in 2011. That same year, "Shot!" wasre-released, and Napoleon Solo performed with The Specials inCopenhagen.In 2018, Napoleon Solo released the album "Open Channel D" withclassics like "Nobody Told Me" and newer material like "Hot as Ice" onGerman Pork Pie Records and American Jump Up Records.In 2019, the group celebrated its 35th anniversary at the This Is SkaFestival in Germany, and in 2021, they were one of the headliners atthe German festival Ska is Back in Town. Last year, Napoleon Soloparticipated in a memorial concert for The Specials' lead singer TerryHall at Loppen.Napoleon Solo still consists of: Søren Ole Christensen (vocals), JasperHolst Jørgensen (vocals/guitar), Sonny Henry Rasmussen (guitar), PoulSiersbæk (bass), Jens Wennecke (drums), Jacob Palitzsch (organ), RenéDreyer (guitar), Jack Rothe (alto and tenor saxophone), and Hans Nybo(tenor and baritone saxophone).
