Ice Cream & Café Hygge + Rural Discoveries

This excursion for any interested Sunday adventure cyclist starts at Lindholm Station (Nørresundby) at the western part of the platform area where we gather before departure.

Via backroads, detours, quiet paths and probably a spot of dirt road we encounter interesting places along the route with storytelleing stops before we reach the highly accalaimed ice cream venue Ryaa Is / Aabybro Mejeri (Ryaa Ice Cream / Aabybro Dairy) with the quaint living room café that untill 2015 served as the living room of the private residence for dairy owner and ice cream boss N.H. Lindhardt + wife and kids - The café contains and displays a lot of interior elements and items that have been part of the proprietor family´s home for generations.

In celebration of the at last and long-awaited proper pleasant spring weather in Denmark and becausse guided tours are no longer possible at the ice cream factory, the tour organizer will offer a free ice cream to any of the tour participants on the day that who may need or just be tempted to indulge in a helping of any size.

After the ice cream café-break the plan is to continue along further "secret" backroads including additional bridge-crossings of the in this area river-like stream Ryaa and past a couple of manor houses, in particular the large, fascinating Birkelse Hovedgård (Birkelse Main Manor) which dates way back to the 13´th century and has belonged to the same nobility family (Skeel - since the 15´th century) that is also very clossely connected with the present Danish Royal Family (King Frederik & Queen Mary).

The route as a whole i fairly flat and suitable for older children with a bike tuned for a longer trip. Part of the route runs along Vadum Banesti (Vadum Rail Path - a former railway turned into a bicycle- and trekking path) with various detours, e.g. to the Commonwealth War Graves at Vadum Church Cemetary (Vadum Kirkegård) and possibly the labyrinth-like little fun location called "The 1000 Lakes" near the village Biersted.

Compared to previous trips to Ryaa Is organized by the Danish Cyclist Federation it cannot be ruled out that entirely new route-stretches and sceneries will be offered that could surprise some participants, but it all depends on the total sum of circumstances on the day.

The outing is free of charge for members of the Danish Cyclist Federation.

Please note, that registration to participate should take place no later than Friday 17´th of May 2024 at: cykeltureaalborg@gmail.com - Write "ICE" and the name of the individual(s) signing up.
