28/2 touch of yellow kiki ball | debaser klubben

Date: 28 feb. Time : 22.00-03.00. Doors open at 22:00. LSS/Rollcall starts 23:00 SHARP. Touch of Yellow Kiki ball by Scandinavian Mother Demba Bodega & Nimra Bodega. What is a Kiki ball?

A kiki ball is a smaller, more informal event within the ballroom scene, often organized by
younger or emerging members of the community. It's a space for people to compete in
various categories, such as runway, voguing, and face, but with a more relaxed,
community-focused atmosphere compared to larger mainstream balls. Kiki balls also
emphasize inclusivity and safety, often incorporating HIV awareness and safe-sex
messaging. They're a way for newcomers to gain experience, build confidence, and practice their craft before stepping into the larger, more competitive world of ballroom.

History
Ballroom culture, emerging from the LGBTQ+ communities of African Americans and Latinx individuals, celebrates inclusivity, allowing everyone regardless of race, sexuality, or
appearance to participate. Initially rooted in drag competitions, it evolved into vogue dance competitions inspired by the poses in Vogue magazine.

Beginning in the 1960s, styles like Old Way, New Way, and Vogue Femme developed. The
culture gained mainstream recognition in the early 90s, notably through Madonna's hit "Vogue" and the documentary "Paris is Burning" which showcased the lives of LGBTQ+
individuals in New York.
