Feel the raw energy when the Viking Ship Museum's Boat Guild makes sure that spring is kicked off in style. Bring the whole family to the Viking Ship Museum's harbour on Saturday 5 April when the Viking ships hit the water again
A true spring classic awaits when up to 200 members of the Viking Ship Museum's boat guild pull the ships into the water with sheer muscle power and well-coordinated co-operation
The members of the boat guilds have been diligent users of both scrapers and paint brushes over the past many weekends and holidays. As a result, the ships are looking razor-sharp on the lawn in front of the Viking Ship Hall, waiting to get back into their element.
Now all that's left is the final push so that the adventures at sea can once again unfold with oars and full sails.
Programme for the launch on Saturday 5 April 2025:
10.00 - 15.00: The Viking ships Skjoldungen, Kraka Fyr, Estrid Byrding, Helge Ask, Nordlandsbåden Rana and the Frederikssund dinghy Marcus Noer will be launched
10:00 - 15:00: The large merchant ship Ottar is loaded with 15 tonnes of ballast stone
Around 13.00: The large longship Sea Stallion from Glendalough is launched
14.00 - 14.30: Meet the boat guilds on the square in front of Cafe Knarr
10.00 - 16.30: Cafe Knarr serves 'Viking stew' with lamb and bacon, 'Viking plank' with halibut and Nordic cheese, spring soup and other Nordic food
