K!ART: Musical Wonders by Matthew Shlomowitz

K!ART performs a concert of works by adventurous composer Matthew Shlomowitz followed by a performance sound artist Jacob Eriksen.

Works by Matthew Shlomowitz:

Letter Piece No. 5: Northern Cities (2008)

Symphony for clarinet, accordion and drum-machine ("the inescapable") (2023)

Fast Medium Swing (2008)

Explorations in Polytonaly and other Musical Wonders, Vol. 5 (2024)

In five movements:

1. I - vi - IV - V

2. Polytonal Organum

3. Timeless Interlude

4. Call and Answer (co-composed)

5. Rounded Binary

Jacob Eriksen: [1-8]^[1-8]

"The Inescapable" was inspired by a segment comedian Stewart Lee made for Comedy Vehicle on BBC Two, which is known as, 'these days if you say you're English you get arrested and you'll be, you'll be just thrown in jail'.

Each volume of the series Explorations in Polytonality and other Musical Wonders consists of a collection of short pieces, each exploring a musical technique, texture, form, or trope. In equal part earnest and irreverent, I aim to find fresh possibilities in these approaches, many of which have fallen out of favour in contemporary music production.

[1-8]^[1-8] is a performance exploring originally unintended utilisations of obsolete reverberation algorithms through feedback techniques.

Matthew Shlomowitz (b. 1975) is a London based composer, raised in Adelaide, Australia. Many of his works are grouped into series: Letter Pieces are open score works combining physical action and music; pieces in Popular Contexts combine recognisable recordings with instrumental music; performance-lecture works addressing aesthetic issues, such as Lecture About Bad Music; and a new series titled Explorations in Polytonality and other Musical Wonders.

K!ART is an experimental music ensemble and creative platform based in Copenhagen. The group has been presenting DIY-flavored, intermedial music events since 2019.
