Tetrapak print Workshop for Beginners

Tetrapak prints: the approachable way of exploring intaglio printing! Materials will be provided for you at the workshop. Please arrive 15 minutes early.

If for any reason you will not be able to make it, please inform us so that we can give your seat to another person and it doesn't go to waste! Please come dressed in clothes you don't mind getting dirty, or bring an apron. Because of the nature of the tools used, we require that you be 16+ to attend this workshop.
Tetrapak printing is a fun and easy way to create expressive and stunning art using household (more or less) materials. Tetrapak printing is an engraving method in which the design to be printed is scratched directly into a plate, or in this case a tetrapak, with a sharply pointed instrument. It is similar to dry point or intaglio printing techniques. Tetrapaks are a common food packaging, usually used for drinks and plant-based milk cartons. You will be led through the process and get tips and tricks for the best way to engrave and print, but otherwise just explore the wonderful process. This is a beginner friendly workshop ; no previous knowledge is required. All materials will be provided by the workshop, and you will be able to take your plates and prints home with you. Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting stained just in case, as this can be a very messy process! In this 3 hour workshop we will cover the basics about the materials being used. The workshop will be held in English. Please come with a design in mind to engrave and print in this workshop. We will be working only in 1 colour, black. Because of the different sizes of tetrapaks, we will be working in a variety of sizes, but approximately A6.
You'll be guided by Hannah Woetmann Bitton, a self-taught artist working in many different mediums. The last decade she has focused on making comics, zines, and artworks using a host of printing techniques. Hannah's approach to both creating and teaching is informed by a mixture of research, dialogue, and playful experimentation - accessibility and fun being the overall codewords.
