Jazz

Kira Martini & Band

Kira interpretations of American jazz classics, old Brazilian songs, and her own compositions are personalized and moving, and she meets her audience on an eye-to-eye level, wanting them to be a part of the concert. Heart & mind.

She is frank, natural, soulful and on top of that a skilled vocalist, that knows how to use her instrument, change the tone and colour the melodies with her phrasings.

Martini comes from a little town north of Copenhagen. On her fathers side, she has swedish roots, and all the summers as a child were spent in their little yellow house in the cliffs of Bohuslän.

Her first encounter with jazz was when she moved to Copenhagen, and started hanging out in the jazz and blues clubs around town. She had been singing, and writing for a long time, but the spirit of jazz & blues, moved her deeply and this became her musical home.

In 2010 she got offered a long-term gig in Brazil, and went along with her guitarist. After the contract ended she decided to stay, and spend 8 month in the North-east of Brazil, playing gigs, writing, learning the language and getting to know the Brazilian genres; Bossa, Samba, Choro, etc.

She was still writing though on the side of her travels & jazz-studies, and when she returned from Brazil in 2011 she gathered her band, and in 2012 she released her first album, with own songs, "More Things Unites Us". Contemperary songwriting, in the cross-over-land between different genres, with the feel and instruments of jazz.

Her 2nd album, but jazz-debut, "Kira Martini presents MARTINI*S", came in 2013, and that really marked her name on the jazz-scene. The album got great reviews, and lots of air-play.

28th November 2016 Martini and her orchestra released their album "Yellow House Sessions".

Her sources of inspiration include Nancy Wilson, Topsy Chapman, Etta Jones, Duke Ellington, Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso, Abel Ferreira, Areatha Franklin, Lillian Boutté, Ella fitzgerald, Elis Regina, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Dinah Washington, Bessie Smith, Shirley Horne, Sarah Vaughn, Chet Baker and Oscar Peterson.

Concert er støttet af KBH Kommune og Statens Kunst Fond.
