Due to its highly allusive nature, the ghazal has proved capable of an extraordinary variety of expression around its central themes such as spirituality love, loss, longing and the complexities of human emotion. They can be highly emotional and express the poet's innermost feelings.
Themes of today's ghazal can be: unequal distribution of wealth, political system, working conditions, environment, etc.
Ghazal Gayaki:
Ghazal carries a certain mood, and its musical composition focuses on the mood appropriately and thus raag is chosen. Understanding the nuances of ghazal poetry is essential to delivering a meaningful performance.
Vocal: Pervaiz Akhtar Singer and composer. Music Therapist has published many albums. He would render ghazals of Faiz and Fraz.
Vocal: Anindita Roy, trained Hindustani Classical and Ghazal singer. Disciple of Ustad Shabbir Khan Gullu from Patiala and Sham Chaurasia gharana.
Vocal: Marya Akhtar was born in Denmark a disciple of Lalita Mathur & regular pupil of Ustad Dharam Bir Singh is trained in singing Indian/Pakistani classical and Sufi music and has the honour of learning from Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. She has widely performed in national and international concerts. Today she would sing Ghazals by, Parveen Shakir & Ahmad Fraz.
Guitar: Salim, a professional guitarist, performed in several national, and international concerts and TV shows.
Tabla: Mirwais Fedai, a versatile tabla player, and disciple of Ustad Asif Mahmoud Chishti, has learned from Ustad Shahbaz Hussein. He has accompanied many international artists and fusion bands.
